    Connie Mayer is the Raymond and Ella Smith Distinguished Professor of Law and a Clinical Professor of Law. Professor Mayer practiced law with East Texas Legal Services and subsequently worked in a private criminal and civil law practice prior to joining the faculty at Albany Law School. She joined the law faculty in 1986 as the Director of the Disabilities Law Clinic and continued in that capacity until 1992. In 1992, Professor Mayer became the Director of the Albany Law School Clinical Program and expanded the clinic, adding the AIDS/HIV Law Clinic which she directed from 1992-1996, the Domestic Violence Clinic, and the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic. She continued as the Director of the Clinical Legal Studies Program through 2001 while also serving as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs from 1999 through 2005. In 2005, she became the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

    Professor Mayer has taught various courses including the Disabilities Law Seminar, the AIDS/HIV Law Seminar, Negotiating for Lawyers, Trial Practice I, Trial Practice II and she currently teaches Federal Civil Procedure and Legal Ethics. She serves on the New York State Bar Association Committee on Legal Education & Admission to the Bar. Professor Mayer was the 2011 Recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award.  She has published in the areas of disability law and criminal justice issues. Works in progress include an article using empirical data to analyze the impact of non-academic variables on bar passage.

  • ​Associate Dean Connie Mayer facilitated the work-group panel "Law Schools Working in the Community: Addressing Civil Legal Needs Arising from Entanglement with the Criminal Justice System" at the 8th Annual Law School Access to Justice Conference at Brooklyn Law School on May 14, 2019.

  • ​Associate Dean Connie Mayer was appointed to the New York Court of Appeals Advisory Committee on Skills and Values in January 2019. 

  • ​Associate Dean Connie Mayer moderated the session “Health Law/Disability Law” at the “Access to Justice is Social Justice” CLE at Albany Law School on March 30, 2017.

  • ​Connie Mayer was named Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Albany Law School.
