Hoops Commish Spends Time on Other Court

Robert Barrowman '10 maintains a hectic schedule with his last semester of classes, and as a research assistant and member of the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic. However, he also makes sure he has time to coordinate the Albany Law Intramural Basketball club, in which 10 teams play weekly for much of the school year.

"I think it's a great release from the stress of school and internships," he said. "It's a great way to bring students, staff and alumni together on a weekly basis.  Additionally, it helps me get some exercise that has certainly dwindled since college when I played soccer at Hamilton."

Barrowman, who graduated from Hamilton College in 2007, is principally focused on estate planning and tax law. He has interned with the Encompass Department of The Ayco Company, L.P., in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for two semesters, as well as this past summer. Prior to that internship, he worked as a law clerk for at Roemer, Wallens & Mineaux LLP in Albany.

This semester, Barrowman will work with Dean Connie Mayer as a research assistant for the school's bar passage rate study and an article on the newly adopted New York Model Rules. He was also recently sworn in to practice in the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic this semester with Professor Deborah Kearns.

"I think that all of these activities will prepare me well to practice law, regardless of where I end up working after graduation," he said. "Coordinating a basketball league in which most of the players are busy law students dealing with classes, papers and exams certainly won't hurt either."
