Professor Redwood Discusses Award-winning Fiction on TV

Professor James Redwood was recently a guest on cable TV program "Meet the Author" to discuss his collection of short stories, Love Beneath the Napalm, published by Notre Dame Press. Next week, he will record an episode of "Schenectady Today" with Ann Parillo.

Last year, Professor James Redwood's story "Love Beneath the Napalm" received the Notre Dame Review Short Fiction Prize, leading to its reissue as part of a collection of a dozen or so of his stories.

The story "Love Beneath the Napalm" is the story of a Vietnamese man, living in Upstate New York, who was disfigured in a napalm attack during the Vietnam War. According to its abstract, "a chance encounter with a young Vietnamese girl calls forth memories of youth, dignity, and hope lost to the ravages of war and cultural marginalization."

Professor Redwood has also given a reading as part of the Dean's Book Series, as well as at Russell Sage College in Troy, The Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany, and the Guilderland Public Library. He will give a reading at the Bethlehem Town Library on Feb. 9, 2014, and a reading at the New York State Writers Institute on Feb. 18, 2014.

He has published a number of other pieces of fiction, and legal scholarship, in the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Business Law, Virginia Quarterly Review, Stetson Law Review and other academic journals.

Professor Redwood teaches Business Organizations, Securities Regulation, and Torts. Before joining the Albany Law faculty in 1989, he was a staff attorney with the Division of Enforcement of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and he previously practiced with Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro in San Francisco.

He earned his law degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, where he was executive editor of the Loyola International and Comparative Law Journal, and his undergraduate degree from Oberlin College in Ohio.
