Professor Redwood Awarded Notre Dame Review Fiction Prize

Professor James Redwood's short story collection recently received the Notre Dame Review Short Fiction Prize. The Review will publish his stories as a book.

One of the dozen or so stories to be included in the book, "Love Beneath the Napalm," is the story of a Vietnamese man, living in Upstate New York, who was disfigured in a napalm attack during the Vietnam War. According to its abstract, "a chance encounter with a young Vietnamese girl calls forth memories of youth, dignity, and hope lost to the ravages of war and cultural marginalization."

Originally published in 2005 in the Notre Dame Review, "Love Beneath the Napalm" will be reissued as part of a collection of his stories by the Notre Dame Press. He has published a number of other pieces of fiction, and legal scholarship, in the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Business Law, Virginia Quarterly Review, Stetson Law Review and other academic journals.

Professor Redwood teaches Business Organizations, Securities Regulation, and Torts. Before joining the Albany Law faculty in 1989, he was a staff attorney with the Division of Enforcement of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and he previously practiced with Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro in San Francisco.

He earned his law degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, where he was executive editor of the Loyola International and Comparative Law Journal, and his undergraduate degree from Oberlin College in Ohio.
