Professor Halpern to Deliver Talk on Copyright in UK

Professor Sheldon Halpern will speak about his latest book on Constitutional law and copyright, Playing Well With Others: Institutional, Constitutional, and Cultural Constraints on True Harmonization of the Copyright Laws of the EU, the UK, and the US, for the Arts and Humanities Research Council Centre for Studies in Intellectual Property and Technology Law at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom.

He will also moderate a panel session on "Intellectual Property and Access to Knowledge" for the organization, which will be holding a conference on the theme of "Law and Transformation" from June 6 through 8, 2012.

Professor Halpern is frequently invited overseas to speak on U.S. copyright issues. Recently he was in Israel to speak at a seminar for 30 Israeli judges examining Israel's new copyright statute, and he annually delivers lectures at institutions of higher education throughout the United Kingdom.

He also recently helped publish the International Encyclopedia of Intellectual Property (United States Volume) rev., (part of Kluwer's International Encyclopedia of Intellectual Property ) (Kluwer Law International) (with Nard and Port).

Professor Halpern joined Albany Law School in the fall of 2005 as the Hon. Harold R. Tyler Jr. Chair in Law & Technology. Before that he had been a professor at The Ohio State University since 1984 and the C. William O'Neill Professor of Law and Judicial Administration since 2001.

He has authored several books and publications and directed a series of interdisciplinary conferences exploring the impact of technology on law. Before joining academia, Professor Halpern practiced law in New York and Minnesota.

Professor Halpern received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and graduated first in his class at Cornell Law School.​​
