Professor Breger Discusses Gender Bias in Recent Article

​Professor Melissa Breger's most recent article, "Transforming Cultural Norms of Sexual Violence against Women," has been published in Journal of Research in Gender Studies.

The article discusses gender bias and how modern society is full of implied biases against women, which contribute to issues with domination, oversexualization, violation and power over women and girls. Professor Breger argues that the way to change these problems is to change underlying culture, which can be partially achieved by educating children before gender norms become routine.

Professor Breger has been teaching at Albany Law since 2002. Since joining the Albany Law School faculty, she has taught Children and the Law, Criminal Procedure: Investigation, Domestic Violence Law, Evidence, Family Law and Gender and the Law. Before her work at Albany Law, she was a professor at The University of Michigan Law School.

She is a co-author of New York Law of Domestic Violence, a two-volume treatise published by Reuters-Thomson-West. She is the author of numerous law review articles regarding issues of family law, gender and justice in law reviews and journals such as NYU Review of Law & Social Change, Law and Psychology, and Indiana International and Comparative Law Review.

Professor Breger earned her B.S. at University of Illinois and her J.D. at University of Michigan Law School.
