Jon A. Dorf '90 started his career as a solo practitioner. These days he heads up a growing—and award-winning—firm.

Dorf & Nelson LLP was recently honored for "general excellence" by 914INC in its annual Small Business Awards issue (Fall 2017). The firm, founded in 2008 by Dorf and Jonathan B. Nelson, is headquartered in Westchester County and has satellite offices in Los Angeles and New York City.

"Initially, Dorf & Nelson operated from Mamaroneck Town Center, but the firm outgrew the space within three years," the magazine said. Dorf & Nelson now operates from a 16,000-square-foot space in Rye, N.Y.

Dorf & Nelson serves individuals and businesses in multiple practice areas, including corporate law, commercial real estate, employment law, litigation, and intellectual property. Dorf's personal areas of concentration include corporate and business law, real estate law and intellectual property law.

The firm has 33 employees, and its clients include Diamond Properties, American Sports Entertainment Company, and The Westchester Bank, according to 914INC.

"The founders place a heavy emphasis on building a great culture where team members want to stay—complete with company BBQs and ice cream trucks that pull up to the office in the summer," the magazine said.

A former 3L class president, Dorf remains active in the Albany Law School community. He is a member of the law school's Board of Trustees and previously served on the Moot Court Board. Earlier this year, Dorf & Nelson hosted a CLE and networking reception for Albany Law School graduates in the Westchester area.
