Rehfuss ’14: Attorney, Pro Lacrosse Player, High School Coach of the Year
Abigail Rehfuss ’14
This past spring, Abigail Rehfuss ’14 was drafted to play professional lacrosse for the Boston Storm. She also earned last year’s Coach of the Year for Class A, Section II in her first year coaching Shaker High School girl’s varsity lacrosse team.
From May-August, Rehfuss travels every weekend as a defensive midfielder for the Storm. The traveling is mostly contained to the northeast. While the league is time consuming, it is far from the intensity she experienced while playing Division I lacrosse for Loyola University Maryland, where she was an All American.
“College was much more intense,” she said during a recent visit to campus. “Lacrosse consumed almost five hours a day, pretty much every day for 9 months. With the Storm, we train on our own time during the week, and then compete together on the weekends.”
The start-up United Women’s Lacrosse League, which the Boston Storm is a part of, is in its infancy and seeking to expand. Many of the players are former college all-stars turned college coaches, and the games are strategically placed near recruiting tournaments, where thousands of players gather and naturally gravitate to watch the pro games. The college coaches can combine recruiting while competing.
