Moser '83 Joins Bingham's Energy and Project Finance Group

Joel Moser '83 joined Bingham McCutchen last year as a senior partner in the firm's Energy and Project Finance Group resident in the firm's New York City office. Previously, he was a partner and founding co-chair of Fulbright & Jaworski's Global Infrastructure Group...

Moser focuses his practice on infrastructure investment, finance and public-private partnerships. He has helped develop investment strategies for new asset classes and first-time market participants around the world. He has a particular focus on cross-border infrastructure investment by institutional investors including sovereign wealth funds and government development banks.

In addition to his active private law practice, Moser was recently appointed as adjunct professor at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, where he teaches international infrastructure investment and development. He is also the founding editor of Global Infrastructure, a publication devoted to trends in the global infrastructure market, and he is a member of the Brookings Institution study group on global public investors.

At Bingham, Moser is devoting significant attention to the firm's Asia strategy with particular focus on clients and transactions in Beijing, Hong Kong and Tokyo. His clients include investment funds, global institutional investors and financial institutions. Bingham's global presence includes more than 1,100 attorneys in 13 offices in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Moser fondly recalls his classes with Albany Law Professor Howard Sprow, former general counsel to Merrill Lynch, and credits him, in part, with his decision to pursue a career in private practice.

"Professor Sprow was, in many ways, a role model at time when I was trying to understand how a career in the law might evolve," said Moser, who recently returned to the law school classroom briefly himself, teaching a semester of cross-border contracts at Fordham University School of Law.

Moser is an active participant in many civic, philanthropic, professional and industry-focused organizations and activities. He is a member of the boards of trustees of Bank Street College, the American Red Cross of Greater New York, the New York Hall of Science and the Citizens Budget Commission.

Moser is also a founding member of the U.S. council of the International Project Finance Association and a member of the Energy Committee of the New York City Bar Association. His pro bono work includes serving as infrastructure and board counsel to the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation.
