Maureen E. Maney '01 was appointed president of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY) at the organization's 2012 Convention, held in Verona, N.Y., from June 1 through 3. Maney is a partner at Hancock Estabrook, LLP, in Syracuse, N.Y., where she concentrates her practice on the defense of corporations, individuals, and institutional and individual health care providers in a wide variety of civil litigation at both the trial and appellate levels. Her clients include hospitals, entities in the transportation industry, financial institutions and individuals.

Last year, Maney received the Junior League of Syracuse Community Service Award, and in 2008, she was recognized with a Greater Syracuse Area 40 Under 40 Award. In addition to her service with WBASNY, she is co-chair of the Central New York Women's Bar Association Judicial Screening Committee; member of the Steering Committee, ALFA International, Women's Initiative Practice Group; and board member of the North Area YMCA, among other positions.

While at Albany Law School, Maney was managing editor of the Albany Law Journal of Science and Technology and a recipient of the Dominick Gabrielli Award for Appellate Advocacy.

With more than 3,800 members statewide, WBASNY promotes justice for women in the legal profession and for women, children and families in society; supports the fair administration of justice; and acts as a unified voice for its members on issues of statewide, national and international significance to women generally and to women attorneys in particular.
