Judge Marks '74 Retires after 25 Years on Bench

Monroe County Court Judge Patricia Marks '74 stepped down from the bench on Dec. 31 after 25 years of service. She was also supervising judge of the criminal courts in the Seventh Judicial District in New York state.

According to a recent article in The Daily Record, Judge Marks plans to remain with the New York State Criminal Jury Instructions Committee, which she co-chairs, and the Permanent Sentencing Commission, to which she was appointed late last year.

Judge Marks began her legal career as a legal assistant with the Monroe County Department of Social Services, until she joined the district attorney's office as an assistant district attorney in 1976. She was first elected to the county court in 1984 and has been serving as supervising judge since her 1994 appointment by New York State Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman.

Judge Marks also presided over the Judicial Diversion Program and Veterans Court, which she created, and played a key role in establishing the Monroe County Mental Health Court, according to The Daily Record article. She is the author of 27 published legal decisions and several New York State Bar Journal articles.
