Judge Crummey ’81 Honored at ACBA’s Court of Appeals Dinner
Senior Colonie Town Justice and Court Administrator Peter G. Crummey, Class of 1981, was recently lauded for his leadership and dedication to the Albany County Bar Association during its 117th Annual Court of Appeals Dinner in Albany, N.Y.
Judge Crummey, a past president of the ACBA, received the association’s President’s Award before a black-tie audience of more than 400 at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center on February 7, 2018.
Judge Crummey has served the Colonie Town Justice Court—among the state’s busiest courts, handling approximately 25,000 cases each year—since January 1, 2000. He also has served as Acting City Court Judge for Albany, Cohoes, Hudson, and Troy. Prior to being elected as a Colonie Town Justice, Judge Crummey worked in public service as an Albany County legislator and minority leader, a prosecutor in the Colonie and Menands traffic courts, an attorney for the Town of Colonie, and as the attorney for the Colonie Zoning Board of Appeals.
Judge Crummey is a member of the Judicial Section of the New York State Bar Association and serves on the NYSBA Committee on Procedures for Judicial Discipline. He is also a member of the State Magistrate’s Association, the Capital District Women’s Bar Association, the New York State Bar Foundation, BPOE Colonie #2192, and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Colonie.
His other activities include presentations to local schools and community groups, and hosting the Colonie Town Library’s cable television program “Benchmark.” Judge Crummey also presents an annual “Gavel Award” to a teacher who promotes knowledge of the courtroom in the classroom.
