Flink '77 Named to Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum

​Edward Flink '77 won more than a million dollars in recent jury cases for a steel worker injured by a collapsing pedestrian bridge and for a police officer injured while chasing a suspect.

Based on these results, he was named a member of both the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Less than one percent of U.S. attorneys are members of either group.

"The broader concept of justice is a critical part of my approach to these cases," said Flink, noting that both cases came through referrals from past clients. "I want my clients to be able to heal and go on with their lives, in addition to receiving appropriate compensation."

Flink is a founding member of Flink Smith LLC, the successor to Edward Flink & Associates, which he formed in 1995.

"Every case - big or small - is an exciting challenge for me," said Flink, who now has offices in Latham, N.Y., and Lake Placid, N.Y. "I can go from night court to arguing in front of the Court of Appeals in the span of a day."

Over his more than 30 years of practice, Flink has represented securities brokers and their employees; business people and companies in commercial and employment cases; and a wide variety of clients in insurance and personal injury, products liability and malpractice matters, including both plaintiffs and defendants. Currently, he is working on an eminent domain case in Lake Placid.

Before forming his own firm, he was a partner for 12 years in a firm that he started with an Albany Law classmate, and prior to that, he began his law career as an associate with Hinman, Howard & Kattell in Binghamton, N.Y.

A child of the 1960s, Flink commented that influences from the era, including a free-thinking and creative approach to challenges, have helped him in his cases, and in growing his practice over the years.

Flink is on the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section and is a past co-chair of the NYSBA Committee on the Tort System. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Albany County Bar Association, where he ran the annual high school mock trial tournament for more than 15 years, and he is also a member of the Essex and Rensselaer County Bar Associations.

He has also volunteered as an officer and member of board of directors for several community organizations, including the United Way, Center for the Disabled and Downtown Day Care Center.

Flink and his wife, Ellen, have been married for more than 30 years and have three grown children.
