The ethical duty of technology competency can only be learned through actual experience working with the technologies that many lawyers use every day in practice. Such exposure will also help to prepare students for the increasing role that technology will play in the law office of tomorrow. This proposed course will provide students with essential knowledge of how to use basic technology in law practice effectively. Applicable to all types of practices and organizations in which a law student may work after graduation, students will learn how to use a range of well-accepted current technologies to deliver legal services to their clients and to do so efficiently and competently. Students will also explore obstacles to widespread adoption of legal technology and develop an appreciation for how being a "tech savvy" practitioner can produce more effective, higher quality and valuable legal work for clients, while saving time and enhancing their own quality of life.
