A qualifying Independent Study Project allows a student to earn two credits for performing law-related activities outside the classroom and produce an appropriate written product on a legal topic, under the supervision of a faculty member. The written product may include a substantive paper, note, article, a brief, memorandum of Law, or other legal writing appropriate to the project. Independent Study Projects may require weekly journals and/or a reflective paper. In addition to a written product, at least 50 hours of law-related activities are required per credit, and credits are evaluated on a pass/fail basis. Students will keep time records to demonstrate their work. The Independent Study Project has to be approved in advance, as set out below, and must include opportunities for student reflection trough regularly scheduled tutorials by the faculty sponsor or other means of guided reflection.
