The specific goals of this course are to (1 ) explore the legal and practical reasons why development and implementation of formal compliance programs are essential in the healthcare industry; (2) ensure students have a working knowledge of the key fraud and abuse laws that compliance professionals must understand; (3) examine the seven essential elements of an effective compliance plan; and (4) equip students with the ability to audit, investigate and resolve compliance concerns as they arise. Students would be evaluated, in part, on their ability to draft legally defensible portions of a compliance plan and conduct mock audits pursuant to those plans. Students will be expected to reflect on their work as part of the evaluation.
