This course will provide learners with an overview of the process and players of lobbying with an emphasis on New York State and New York City government by providing a full perspective of what lobbying entails at the state and city level. After discussing the lead players, legislators, regulators, and government officials, we will work on obtaining practical knowledge such as analyzing bills' agendas on the New York State Legislative Retrieval System (LRS), watching and drafting budget and non-budget testimony, and commenting on draft regulations. The goal will be to provide future lobbyists with the practical experience and professional skills they need to fully assist their clients in all aspects of government relations matters with emphasis on how to analyze committee agendas, draft testimony, and comment on regulations.
