This graduate-level course exposes students to an introduction-level understanding of financial institutions. The course is divded into three main sections: 1)depository institutions (banks, thrifts, and credit uniions), for which will will learn about their defining characteristics, functions and powers, product offerings, and regulatory oversight; 2)non-depository institutions (investment banks, investment companies, and insurance companies), for which we will learn about their characteristics, funtions and regulatory oversight, and 3)the characteristics, uses, and risks of certain financial instruments and structured finance products.
