Albany Law School Students Excel in National MAC Cup III Negotiation Competition

Albany Law School is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the students who competed in this year’s MAC Cup III, an exceptionally selective mock negotiation competition sponsored by the American Bar Association’s Mergers & Acquisitions Committee. The invitational brings together top law students from across the United States and Canada to negotiate a simulated merger or acquisition deal, an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in transactional law.

This year, Albany Law School was honored to have two teams accepted into the competition, a distinction in itself given the limited 64-team field. Competing in the virtual preliminary rounds, Haroon Hameed ’27 and Raina Lee ’27 delivered an impressive performance, advancing to the next phase after a highly competitive match-up against UC Davis. Their dedication, preparation, and poise ultimately led to a remarkable Top 12 finish nationally, a testament to their skill, teamwork, and professionalism.

Albany Law’s second team, John Brady ’26 and Patricia Diaz Romero ’26, also excelled in their round. Although they did not advance, their strong performance exemplified the talent and determination of Albany Law School students. Simply earning a place in this prestigious competition reflects their commitment and capability.

An additional thank you and congratulations is owed to faculty mentors Professor Jennifer S. Martin, Program Director of the Financial Compliance and Risk Management Program, and Professor Christine Sgarlata Chung, Gov George E. Pataki Professor in International Commercial Law. Their guidance and support were instrumental to these students’ success.
