Albany Law School Achieves 87% First-Time Bar Passage Rate
Albany Law School graduates demonstrated their excellence on the New York State Bar Exam, with 87% of first-time takers passing the July 2025 exam—in line with the statewide average for first-time takers from ABA-accredited law schools in New York.
In total, 120 of 138 first-time New York bar takers from Albany Law School passed the July exam.
“This remarkable result reflects both the talent and dedication of our students and the strength of our academic community,” Albany Law School President and Dean Cinnamon P. Carlarne said. “Passing the bar is a significant milestone, and we are incredibly proud of our graduates for meeting this challenge with focus, resilience, and a commitment to excellence.”

Overall, the New York State Board of Law Examiners tested 9,931 candidates, including U.S. domestic-educated candidates and foreign-educated candidates, first-time and repeat takers. Of those candidates, 6,976 passed. A total of 5,746 Juris Doctor graduates from all American Bar Association-accredited law schools who took the bar examination for the first time in July 2025 passed at a rate of 89%. The passing rate for the 3,204 Juris Doctor graduates of the New York law schools who took the examination for the first time is 87%. More information is available at nybarexam.org.
