Albany Law BLSA Wins Chapter of the Year Award at 57th NEBLSA Convention
Albany Law School’s Black Law Students Association (BLSA) has made history by winning the coveted Chapter of the Year award at the 57th Annual Northeast Region, National Black Law Students Association (NEBLSA) Convention held in Boston, MA, from February 5th to February 9th, 2025. This is the first time that Albany Law BLSA has received this prestigious honor, marking a significant milestone for the chapter.

The Chapter of the Year award is a highly sought-after accolade, given to the BLSA chapter that demonstrates exceptional community service, advocacy, school internships, and first-year law student success. Albany Law BLSA competed against more than 30 other schools for this recognition and stood out for its dedication to service and impact. The chapter’s initiatives to support the local community, alongside its strong advocacy and professional development programs, were key factors in their victory.
In addition to this remarkable achievement, two members of Albany Law BLSA were honored for their individual contributions to the NEBLSA community. Tniya Reed, NEBLSA Liaison and Upstate N.Y. Sub-Regional Director, and Kimberly Williams, BLSA President and NEBLSA Director of Community Service, were both recognized as NEBLSA Board Members of the Year. Their leadership and commitment to fostering a supportive environment for Black law students have played an instrumental role in the success of Albany Law BLSA.

As a result of winning Chapter of the Year at the regional level, Albany Law BLSA will now compete at the National NBLSA Convention, which will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, from March 12th to March 16th, 2025. This marks an exciting next step for the chapter as it continues to build on its success and further elevate its impact on the national stage.
“We made a promise to our school and our BLSA members that we would not only make a meaningful impact in our community but also ensure that BLSA’s name would be known far and wide,” said Williams. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our members and the power of collaboration within our community.”
Albany Law BLSA is proud of its achievements and looks forward to continuing its journey to inspire change and make a lasting difference.
