Housing Justice Clinic
The Housing Justice Clinic is designed to provide law students with a hands-on, practical learning environment, with a focus on varying aspects of New York housing law, ethical considerations, and practical skills necessary for client representation in the context of Landlord Tenant practice. This clinic aims to instill a strong sense of professional responsibility and client advocacy from the outset.
Under the supervision of faculty and a staff attorney, students will work in teams to provide varying forms of legal representation and advocacy to tenants who are experiencing landlord/tenant disputes. Through direct representation of clients, students will learn interviewing and counseling skills, legal strategies, and drafting skills as they prepare legal documents. Student may appear in court, speak on the record, make oral arguments, or engage in negotiation with opposing counsel/pro se landlords. Students may also engage in out-of-court advocacy when appropriate in the interest of resolving case disputes.
