Albany Law was founded in 1851 for the purpose of reimagining legal education. Today’s ongoing commitment to innovation is centered around providing our students with the support, and resources that will drive their success not only during their time with us, but in their careers and lives.

This program is the reason I was able to make the connections that I made, and have the confidence to do the work that I do now.

Career Services

The Career and Professional Development Center’s mission is to partner with students in fostering a culture of career education and exploration that inspires students to chart their individual career paths, with an intentional emphasis on developing student professionalism, self-awareness, resourcefulness, resilience, ethical decision-making, and confidence that leads to successful employment outcomes unique to each student.

Students are provided with login credentials to AlbanyLaw Link, which is the platform on which all career related resources are housed. Students are provided with a career counselor and can make a virtual appointment with their counselor through AlbanyLaw Link. Additionally, job search resources, career education programming, and job postings are accessible on AlbanyLaw Link.

Academic Planning & Advising

No matter what your life outside of school looks like, chances are you face multiple priorities and need a graduate program that truly recognizes the importance of flexibility. Our Online Graduate Programs offer:

  • Flexible Pacing: Elect a course load that works for you by choosing how many courses/credits you wish to take at any given time.
  • Ability to Pause: You can take a break for one or more online sessions (typically seven weeks) for work, family, or other reasons.
  • Uniquely Customizable Course Choices: With only a few exceptions, students choose the specialized course topics of greatest interest to them. But, don’t worry - your faculty advisor and program staff can always help ensure your choices align with your career interests, as needed.

Speak with your Admissions Counselor to hear more about our commitment to flexibility, as well as what it’s like to learn in the seven-week asynchronous online format.

Student Success Services

From your first day of class to your last, Albany Law School has ensured every student has access to the academic support they need to succeed. From a virtual student center where you will find helpful information, relevant forms, and details on campus offices to a well-respected alumni network, you will be prepared for anything.

The Schaffer Law Library boasts an impressive range of virtual materials and catalogs, including resources such as Bloomberg Law, Lexis, and Westlaw. A librarian dedicated to aiding online students and a Virtual Reference Desk available to all students ensures that you will find exactly the information you are looking for.

We understand that going back to school can be stressful, even for the most organized students. That's why we provide more than just academic support. When things feel overwhelming and you need someone to talk to, we offer access to trained wellness counselors and various other external services. We believe our students thrive when supported in the classroom and out.

Access to Campus

When you enroll at Albany Law School you become a part of our community, even as an online student. Whether you are local to the Capital Region or just in the area for an afternoon, students are welcome and encouraged to spend time on their campus. Settle into the library to work on your studies, get a student ID, stop into the school bookstore to pick up Albany Law School gear, or enjoy a conversation with fellow students under the archways of the 1928 building.

While all of your classes and requirements are in an online setting, you will always have the option to visit your campus if you choose.

If you'll be coming to campus and would like a tour, reach out to Tom Hemstock at thems@albanylaw.edu.

Commencement

M.S. and LL.M. students are invited to participate in Albany Law School's spring commencement after completing their degree requirements. Graduates enjoy a campus reception the day before, including opportunities to meet Albany Law School Deans, Staff, and fellow students in person, tour the campus, and pick up their alumni swag at the bookstore. On the day of commencement, graduates adorn their robes and will cross the stage to receive their hoods in front of friends and family. It's a day of celebration for all!
