City of Troy Housing Court System

When the city of Troy was considering asking the State Legislature to change the way its court system worked in relation to housing matters, it turned to the Government Law Center for information on what other New York municipalities had done in the past, as well as for a review of the law and best practices from around the nation. Working closely with the city to ensure that the report contained the information the city needed, Government Law Center staff, with the assistance of Albany Law School students and an intern from a local college, compiled a report detailing the creation and structure of housing courts in the State, along with information on how housing disputes are handled in other states. This report provided the city with the background information it needed to proceed and make policy choices in this particularly complex area of municipal and judicial law.
