Professor Nancy Maurer, along with Simeon Goldman, served as
editor-in-chief for the recently published Disability Law and Practice:
Special Education, Assistive Technology and Vocational Rehabilitation.
Published by the New York Bar Association, it is the first
in a three-book series to provide a broad education in all aspects of
disability law and practice. Professor Maurer also authored the chapter
"Ethical Issues in Representing Clients with Diminished Capacity,"
and Professor Bridgit Burke contributed the chapter "Disability Law: Internet
Research and Resources."
Professor Maurer and Professor Burke are co-directors of the
Albany Law Clinic & Justice Center. Simeon Goldman, the co-editor, is a
senior staff attorney at Disability Advocates.
Professor Maurer also directs the Field Placement Clinic, in
which second- and third-year students receive academic credit while interning
at one of more than 140 placements in various areas of law practice, including
criminal defense or prosecution, public interest advocacy, government law,
science and technology or in judicial chambers.
Prior to joining the law school faculty, Professor Maurer
practiced law with a legal services program in Charleston, S.C., and served as
a staff attorney for New York State Commission on Quality of Care for the
