Michelle A. Frankel is the Director, Legal Affairs & Counsel at National Health Care Associates, Inc, which is a provider of short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing and post-hospital care. Michelle assists about 40 facilities throughout the northeast with varied legal and compliance issues to ensure the provision of excellent and compassionate care.

Michelle believes that understanding medical malpractice issues is beneficial when working in any healthcare setting. She has as an in-depth understanding of such issues based on her work experience on both the defendant/medical provider side and the plaintiff/patient side. She worked at one of New York’s top plaintiff advocacy law firms while in law school and upon graduating from law school, she began her career at Martin Clearwater & Bell, LLP (MCB), which is a leading medical malpractice defense law firm in NYC. While working at MCB for over six years, Michelle worked with diverse healthcare clients including some of New York’s largest and most prestigious hospital systems as well as countless nursing homes, physician practice groups, and dialysis centers.

Michelle’s unique perspective on healthcare has been further shaped by her understanding of business, compliance and government related issues that arise in the healthcare setting. She learned about such issues first-hand when she worked at a boutique healthcare law firm, the New York State Department of Health, and Pfizer. Michelle has lectured physicians at a renowned NYC hospital about medical malpractice issues and published more than 20 articles on diverse healthcare topics.

Michelle is compelled by her varied experience and inspired by the concept that the legal, medical, corporate and government fields are distinct yet greatly interrelated, impacting each other often. This concept motivated the multifaceted perspective of her online medical malpractice course. The goal of the course is to help students identify and address medical malpractice issues in varied and non-traditional healthcare settings.

Michelle was selected to the Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch 2021 and 2022 (a peer-review recognition for outstanding professional excellence in private practice in the U.S.). She is a member of various bar associations and legal and risk management organizations. She is admitted to practice law in New York, including in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the Eastern District of New York. Michelle obtained her BA and JD degrees in the combined “3 + 3 Law and Public Policy Program” at Union College and Albany Law School.
