Professor Torres is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Housing Justice Clinic at Albany Law School.
Prior to joining Albany Law School, Professor Torres was an Associate Director of Career Planning at CUNY School of Law where she advised students and alumni on navigating their legal careers, developed a student/alumni mentoring program, and organized career related campus programs. Professor Torres was previously a Senior Staff Attorney at Manhattan Legal Services, one of the largest providers of free legal services to low-income communities in New York City. She began her career at Legal Services in the Housing Unit where she represented clients in eviction defense proceedings. As a Housing Attorney, she served as a mentoring attorney for the pilot year of New York Law School's Housing Rights Clinic. She then joined the HIV/LGBTQ Advocacy Unit where she represented clients in areas including immigration, discrimination, public benefits, advance directives and name changes.
In addition to providing direct services to her clients, she ran the mentoring program and Manhattan Legal Services and mentored pro bono attorneys who volunteered to represent clients in their name change proceedings.
She worked for the City of New York in various capacities before attending law school, including the New York City Council and the New York City Campaign Finance Board. She developed her passion for client advocacy while working as a Community Policy Aide for former New York City Council member Rosie Mendez. Professor Torres is a New York City native who received her B.A. in Sociology from SUNY New Paltz, and her J.D. from New York Law School.
