    J.D., George Washington University National Law Center

    Professor Maurer Directs Albany Law School’s Field Placement and Pro Bono Scholars programs and teaches courses in Negotiating for Lawyers and Legal Issues in Medicine. Professor Maurer founded and for many years directed the Civil Rights and Disabilities Law Clinic in which law students, working under faculty supervision, represented clients in discrimination, public entitlements, education or other disability rights matters. She co-developed Albany’s Introduction to Lawyering course which is designed to expose first year law students to essential research, writing, and lawyering skills in context, and to teach them to think like professionals. She writes and lectures in the areas of legal education and disability law. She is an editor of the 3rd edition of LEARNING FROM PRACTICE: A TEXT FOR EXPERIENTIAL LEGAL EDUCATION. She is also an editor of the New York State Bar Association three book series DISABILITY LAW AND PRACTICE (book three forthcoming in 2016). Professor Maurer is the 2015 recipient of the Albany Law Faculty Excellence in Service Award.

    Prior to joining the Albany Law faculty, Professor Maurer practiced law with Legal Services in Charleston, S.C. and later served as staff attorney for New York State Commission on Quality of Care and Advocacy for People with Disabilities. She is a member and former co-chair of the New York State Bar Association Committee on Disability Rights and Serves on the Board of Directors of Disability Rights New York, Inc.

  • Professors Seve Falati, Mary Lynch, and Nancy Maurer delivered a collaborative presentation about assessment at the national conference Externships 9: Coming of Age, March 9-11, 2018 at the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, Ga. 

  • ​Professor Nancy Maurer's co-edited book series DISABILITY LAW AND PRACTICE (New York State Bar Association) (with Simeon Goldman) received the Award of Professional Excellence from the Association for Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA). The award was in the publication category of the ACLEA's 2017 Best Awards.

  • ​Professor Nancy Maurer was recognized at the Disability Rights New York Annual Meeting in May 2017; an original board member, she is stepping down after 30 years of service.

  • ​Professor Nancy Maurer and Professor Mary Lynch, Kate Stoneman Chair in Law and Democracy, presented a CLE training to newly hired Legal Aid attorneys on January 26, 2017. The program covered fundamentals, avoiding surprises, and navigating cultural similarities and differences.

  • ​​​Professor Nancy Maurer presented “Focus Groups and Pathway Competences” at the 5th Annual Educating Tomorrow's Lawyers Conference in Denver on September 22, 2016.

  • ​​Professor Nancy Maurer presented "Enhancing Rewards from Experiential Courses — Expanding our Goals and Teaching Toolbox" for the Joint Conference of the International Journal of Clinical Legal Education and the Association for Canadian Clinical Legal Education at the University of Toronto, July 10-12, 2016.
