    Professor Robert Heverly's research and teaching interests span property and land use law, intellectual and property and copyright law, and cyberspace and communications law. Most recently a visiting professor of law at Michigan State University College of Law, he was previously lecturer in law and director of the LL.M. Programme in Information, Technology and Intellectual Property at the Norwich Law School of the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich, England, and fellow with the Information Society Project at Yale Law School, where he retains an affiliation as a faculty fellow. From 1992-2001, he served as assistant director of Albany Law School's Government Law Center.

  • ​Professor Robert Heverly and ​Professor Peter Halewood delivered an online training on health, human rights and trade law in collaboration with the UAlbany Global Institute for Health and Human Rights with an audience in Middle East—part of a $1.6 million grant-funded project—on April 28, 2017.

  • ​Professor Rob Heverly was a panelist at the forum Endangered Species? The Future of Journalism and the 1st Amendment in Delmar, N.Y. on April 20, 2017.

  • ​Professor Robert Heverly discussed issues surrounding drones and small unmanned aircraft on the panel "Federal Preemption of UAS Regulation" at Syracuse University College of Law on March 10, 2017. The event was presented by the Institute for National Security and Counterterrorism.

  • Professor Robert Heverly was a panelist at the event “As Drones Take Flight” at the University at Albany, presented by the UAlbany College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity on November 1, 2016.

  • ​Professor Robert Heverly and Professor Peter Halewood participated in an online training on health, human rights and trade law in collaboration with the UAlbany Global Institute for Health and Human Rights with an audience in Middle East on October 28, 2016. This is part of the $1.6 million grant-funded project begun last year. Professor Sarah Rogerson is also participating and has delivered trainings this fall.

  • ​​Professor Robert Heverly testified before a NYS Assembly committee on the subject of providing affordable and high quality cable, broadband, and telephone service on January 20, 2016.

  • ​Professor Robert Heverly presented a talk on "Social Media and its Effect on the Law" to a meeting of judges from the State of New York's Sixth Judicial District held on February 27, 2015 in Watkins Glen.

  • ​Professor Robert Heverly was elected chair of the Association of American Law Schools Section on Internet and Computer Law.

  • Professor Robert Heverly gave a curated talk and participated in a roundtable at the Drones & Aerial Robotics Conference at NYU in New York City on Oct. 12, 2013.
  • Professor Robert Heverly presented his paper "Regulating the Cyborg" at George Washington University School of Law as part of the institution's Intellectual Property Law Program Papers Series on April 3, 2013.
  • Professor Robert Heverly gave a talk on "Tort Liability in Denial of Service Attacks" at St. John's University School of Law as part of a faculty scholarship exchange.

  • Professor Robert Heverly participated in a workshop on intellectual property at New York University School of Law.

  • Professor Heverly taught a summer class as part of George Washington University Law School's Munich Intellectual Property Summer Program in Germany in July.
  • Professor Heverly presented on social media and legal ethics throughout the spring, including a number of CLEs for the Appellate Divisions in the Third and Fourth Department and for the Albany County Bar Association.
  • Professor Heverly presented a session on social media at Albany Law School's orientation for the class of 2017 in Augus.
  • Professor Heverly's research on state authority to regulate Unmanned Aviation Systems (also known as drones) is nearing completion, and his larger "Cyborg Project" continues to make good progress.
  • ​Professor Robert Heverly will be presenting on cyborgs at the AALS Annual Meeting in New Orleans in January.

  • ​Professor Robert Heverly was appointed by the president of NYSBA to the Legal Education Committee.
