Irwin Nack is a Managing Director at Deutsche Bank and the Deputy Head of Anti-Financial
Crime for the Americas. He is responsible for the design, implementation and oversight of the
firm’s program to comply with laws and regulations associated with anti-money laundering,
international sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption and anti-fraud matters. He joined Deutsche
Bank in May of 2017 after spending 10 years at the Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ (BTMU)
where he was a General Manager and held a number of senior leadership roles including Head of
Anti-Money Laundering, Chief Compliance Officer for the America’s and Head of Global
Financial Crimes Advisory. He was also one of the firm’s representatives on the Wolfsburg
Group. Before joining BTMU he was Senior VP and Director of Anti-Money Laundering for TD
Banknorth, N.A., (successor institution to Hudson United Bank).
Prior to entering the private sector, Mr. Nack served almost 15 years in government. His last
government role was Investigative Counsel for the NY State Banking Department (predecessor
agency to the NY State Department of Financial Services) where he conducted and supervised
large-scale investigations and advised the Superintendent of Banks and senior staff on regulatory
enforcement matters. He also served as a member of the U.S. Treasury Department’s Bank
Secrecy Act Advisory Group. During his tenure with the Banking Department, Mr. Nack headed
NY State's investigation into the fate of Holocaust victim’s assets deposited with Swiss banks
prior to and during the Second World War. His knowledge and expertise in this area was widely
recognized and, among other matters, testified as an expert before two Presidential commissions
investigating various issues pertaining to the Nazi era and Holocaust victims’ assets.
Mr. Nack started his career as a prosecutor in the New York County District Attorney’s Office.
He spent five years as a trial attorney before transferring to the Investigations Division where he
investigated and prosecuted complex financial crime cases.
Irwin Nack was born and raised in Bronx, New York and graduated cum laude from the State
University of New York at Albany where he doubled majored in History and Criminal
Justice. He received his law degree from New York Law School in 1988 where he was Editor-in-
Chief of the Journal of International & Comparative Law.
