Albany Law School to Host Annual CLE Series in Saratoga Springs, Begins August 1

Albany Law School’s Center for Continuing Legal Education and Government Law Center will host a timely series of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs in Saratoga Springs this summer.

For over 25 years, the CLE in Saratoga Seminar Series has featured presentations about pressing law and policy issues by experts and the broader legal community. This year, topics include major decisions from the Supreme Court of the United States, what lawyers need to know about cybersecurity, equity-focused policy drafting, and the impact of federal immigration policy changes in New York.

These programs are intended for attorneys admitted to practice law in New York State. All programs will take place in person at the Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Springs, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. ET. A registration fee of $125 is required.

August 1, 2025 | Supreme Court Update
Presented by: Professor Vincent Martin Bonventre, Jackson Distinguished Professor of Law at Albany Law School

Professor Bonventre returns to deliver his annual Supreme Court update. He will survey the major decisions of the immediate past term and, as usual, highlight the patterns in the voting records of the Justices and in the decisional record of the Court as a whole.

Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Data Protection: What Lawyers Need to Know
Presented by: Benjamin Voce-Gardner, Esq., Director of the Office of Counterterrorism, New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services

The presenter will provide an overview of the legal and regulatory frameworks for cybersecurity, nuts and bolts of cybersecurity in practice, and the role of legal counsel in advising clients on cybersecurity issues.

Equity-Focused Policy Drafting for Government Lawyers
Presented by: Angelica Kang, Esq., Chief Diversity Officer and Associate Counsel, New York State Office of General Services

The presenter will discuss the intersection of law and policy and how policymakers have utilized laws, regulations, and resources to advance equitable outcomes for the historically marginalized, oppressed, and under/un-served. The presenter will discuss past strategies developed and piloted at the state executive agency level, as well as new challenges and opportunities in light of recent federal actions against diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

August 15, 2025 | Immigration Law and Policy Update: Impacts of Federal Immigration Policy in New York

Moderated by: Prof. Lauren DesRosiers, Director of the Immigration Law Clinic at the Edward P. Swyer Justice Center and Assistant Professor at Albany Law School

A panel of immigration experts will discuss the impacts of federal immigration policy in New York State, with a focus on the intersections with education, labor, and criminal law. Panelists include Taylor Cuomo, Esq. ’18, Associate, Whiteman Osterman & Hanna, Kelly Hendricken, Esq. ’14, Managing Counsel for Student Affairs, State University of New York Office of General Counsel, and Emma Reynolds, Esq., Assistant Federal Public Defender, Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of New York.
