A vibrant, intellectual community.
A location
in one of the nation's most influential regions.
A singular focus of
the study of law.
An intellectual exchange of ideas builds an understanding of the law.
Albany Law School has invested 160 years perfecting the learning
environment for that exchange.
Knowledge Empowers
Knowledge Empowers. That
statement is the promise we make and keep to every Albany Law student. Here
students gain the intellectual foundation and the practical experience
needed for career success as a practicing attorney or for any range of
careers that can be strengthened by quality education in the law.
The Student Body
Our students are exceptional. By
any metric, their level of ability and achievement exceeds that of the
average law student's and continues our 160-year tradition of developing
outstanding attorneys. With almost 11 applications for each seat in the
entering class, admission is competitive. The median LSAT score is 154 and
the median undergraduate grade point average is 3.27. Students come from
across the United States and 15 countries. Twenty-two percent of our
students identify themselves as a member of a minority
group.
An Intense Academic Environment
Our commitment to
the highest quality academic environment is strong. With a
student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1, students get the personal interaction
needed to promote clarity of understanding and practical engagement in
learning. Our faculty ranks include noted authors, gifted teachers and
world-class scholars. The student-faculty relationship is one that
challenges students to excel while supporting them toward success. Our
curriculum prepares students for above-average outcomes on the bar exam and
work life. With 14 concentrations, students can focus on special areas of
interest or develop a broad understanding of legal topics. We also offer
many dual degrees in conjunction with area colleges in the Capital
District, providing students with a rich educational experience and a broad
range of professional opportunities while allowing students to complete two
degrees in four years of full-time study.
Learning Law by Doing Law
Albany Law gives
students abundant opportunities to put theory into practice in rewarding
ways. Through the award-winning Albany Law School Clinic & Justice
Center, students represent low-income clients. The Government Law Center
takes advantage of the school's location in New York's capital to offer an
array of policy and public-service programs. Our Moot Court program,
simulation courses, internships and field placements create other
opportunities for hands-on-learning.
The Many Advantages of Being in New York's Capital
Internship opportunities/field placements—Albany
is the capital city and the economic center of upstate New York, and this
translates into innumerable internship opportunities with government
agencies, private law firms and the legal departments of companies in the
region.
Singular Focus, Proven Results
Our sole focus on
the study of law yields outstanding results. Our graduates have great
success on the New York State Bar Exam, providing a passport to practice
law almost anywhere. Our graduate employment rate has been well above the
national average for more than 25 years.
