Detailed Acceptance Information - Spring and Fall terms
Enrollment Confirmation
If you decide not to attend Albany Law School, please notify the Admissions Office promptly. You may use the Enrollment Confirmation Form referenced above, or send an email to admissions@albanylaw.edu. There are many applicants who are anxiously waiting for the opportunity to join the Albany Law family. Please be courteous.
Deposits
You will be notified within your acceptance letter of number of deposit(s) and due date(s) to hold your seat in the class.
The earliest due date for the deposit for Spring 2025 entering students is December 1, 2024.
The earliest due date for the first deposit for Fall 2025 entering students is April 1, 2025.
All deposit(s) are non-refundable and will be credited to your first tuition bill.
You may monitor your status checker to confirm when your deposit(s) has been received and processed.
You may pay online by credit card or mail a check or money order made payable to “Albany Law School.” Please be sure that your name and LSAC account number are included to ensure that your deposit is credited to the correct account.
Failure to submit your deposit or notify our office in a timely manner could result in the forfeiture of your seat and any scholarship award offered.
Transcripts
To satisfy American Bar Association (ABA) requirements, you must provide an official final transcript showing your undergraduate degree conferred and the date it was awarded. Prior to Albany Law's orientation any 3+3 or 4+3 entering student must provide an official transcript noting all 3 years of college courses and credits (grades).
This final transcript must be received prior to the start of Orientation. If the transcript that you have already provided to LSAC was a final degree-granting transcript, then no further action is required.
However, if your transcript(s) were submitted to LSAC prior to the date that your degree was conferred, you must submit an updated final official transcript to LSAC. In the alternative, you may have your degree-granting institution send your final transcript directly to Albany Law School.
Should you have any questions regarding your final transcript, please contact the Office of Admissions. In the event that you do not obtain your undergraduate degree by the start of Orientation, please contact the Office of Admissions.
Orientation
All students in the JD program are required to attend a mandatory Orientation – typically the week prior to the official start of classes. You will participate in academic preparation programs and receive assignments that must be completed prior to your first day of class. A complete Orientation schedule will be sent to you this summer.
Immunizations
According to New York State Public Health Law, all post-secondary students born on or after January 1, 1957, must provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella and have either received the meningitis vaccine within the last 5 years or acknowledge that you decline to do so.
Immunization information can be obtained from the following sources: your health care provider, previous college health center, or infant records held by parents that are signed by a physician.
Submit your immunization form.
Student Immunization Record Form(s) for all residential students must be received prior to beginning of orientation. Failure to do so may result in withdrawal from classes.
Portal Access
To help you with the transition to law school, deposited applicants will be given access to our student online service called Portal. Access to the Student Portal will be activated within a few weeks after we receive and process your full seat deposit.
From Portal, you can:
- View your schedule (when available)
- Access financial aid information (when available)
- View the orientation schedule and reading assignments (when available)
Housing
All housing at Albany Law School is off campus.
Because there are so many colleges in the region, housing is readily available, relatively inexpensive, and usually located in the residential area surrounding the Law School.
Typically, one-bedroom/studio apartments range from $725-$895, two-bedrooms from $825-$1,200, and three-bedrooms or a house from $1,200-$1,600.
While the Law School does not screen or investigate any housing, the Office of Admissions has some resource material available to assist you with securing housing, including copies of the Capital Region Renters Guide and information on the UH College Suites, a fully furnished all-inclusive student residence facility located adjacent to the Law School.
Scholarships
All admitted applicants are automatically considered for our merit-based scholarship awards. If you are awarded a scholarship, you will be notified. Be sure to also pursue externally funded scholarships posted beginning August 1st of each year for aspiring Spring and Fall applicants: Access Lex Law School Scholarship Databank has vetted these opportunities.
Cost of Attendance
When creating your law school financial plan or comparing costs to attend different law schools, it is important to consider the overall cost of attendance, which takes into account various savings and expenses that a student may incur, beyond strict tuition and merit scholarship awards.
Other costs can include:
- required fees
- books and supplies
- transportation costs (Albany Law School - does provide Free access to a CDTA Bus pass)
- room and board
Many of these costs, particularly room and board, can be dramatically different from location to location. When calculating the out-of-pocket cost to attend any school, it is important to consider all of these factors as well as tuition, scholarships, and any conditions on scholarships that may apply.
Financial Aid
If you would like to receive an estimate of your aid eligibility, you must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and list Albany Law School’s Title IV Code: G02886.
You can file your FAFSA electronically at Federal Student Aid page.
For more information, please review the Financial Aid page.
If you have any questions related to scholarship, financial aid, or cost of attendance, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (518)445-2357 or finaid@albanylaw.edu.
Deferments
Any admitted applicant may request to defer their enrollment for up to one year.
A formal written request outlining the reasons for the deferral should be submitted to the Office of Admissions no later than July 15, 2025.
Deferrals are considered on a case-by-case basis, and submission of a request does not guarantee that a deferral will be granted.
If granted, a full deposit noted within your offer letter will need to be paid in order to secure your seat for the future term. If a deposit is not received timely, your seat may not be guaranteed for future enrollment. Scholarship awards are not eligible for deferral. If a deferral is granted, your future scholarship award may change. Deferred matriculants are automatically reconsidered for scholarship prior to the start of their future term, based upon scholarship award availability at that time.
Accommodations
If you will require special accommodations for a documented physical or learning disability during the academic year, please contact Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Rosemary Queenan at rquee@albanylaw.edu.
