Stephen P. Younger ’82 will receive the Law Firm Diversity Award at the Puerto Rican Bar Association's 59th Scholarship Fund Gala in New York City later this month.
Younger, a former president of the New York State Bar Association, is a partner at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP in Manhattan, where he earned a reputation as a top commercial litigator and alternative dispute resolution attorney. He has served on a long list of committees and boards, including the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution and New York International Arbitration Center, and is a trustee emeritus of Albany Law School.
was recently considered for a judicial post on the New York Court of Appeals, the state's highest court. In 2010, he was named to the transition team for classmate Gov. Andrew Cuomo ’82.
Other honorees at the September 29 gala include: Latino Judges Association, Inc. (Judicial Excellence); City University of New York (Academic Excellence); and Tito Puente (posthumous, Community Service Award).
The Puerto Rican Bar Association — led by President Betty Lugo ’84 — was was founded in 1957 to provide support to Puerto Rican and Latino attorneys and address the concerns the Latino community. Its annual gala helps ensure the Puerto Rican and Latino communities' access to legal education. This year's dinner and dance fundraiser will be held at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers, with live entertainment by Tito Puente Jr. and Latin Grammy winner Lena Burke.
