Jon A. Dorf '90, founder and managing partner of The Dorf Law Firm, LLP, was recently selected by the Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) to receive the 2012 Equal Access to Justice Award. Dorf received the award at the organization’s sixth gala dinner in May at the VIP Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y.

LSHV, established in 1967, offers free civil legal services to low-income and newly unemployed people in seven counties of the Hudson Valley. LSHV staff attorneys and lawyer volunteers provide legal assistance for cases dealing with life’s essentials such as housing evictions, public benefits issues, domestic violence, consumer debt, health advocacy, mortgage foreclosures, elder abuse, predatory lending and advocacy for disabled children.

Dorf has a long history of giving back to both the business community and the private sector. He is general counsel and a board member of the Business Council of Westchester; secretary of the Westchester County Bar Association; past town prosecutor for the Town of Mamaroneck and member of the Harbor Commission of the Village of Mamaroneck; and current President of the Orienta Point Association, Inc., a community organization. He resides in Mamaroneck with his wife and two daughters.

His firm, The Dorf Law Firm, LLP, represents a wide range of business clients from start-up entrepreneurial ventures to established multi-million dollar companies and was inducted into The Westchester County Business Hall of Fame as recipient of the 2009 “Small Business Success” award sponsored by The Business Council of Westchester. In 2008, Dorf was the recipient of the Above the Bar Awards “Pace Setter Award” presented to a candidate who has exemplified overall excellence in professional and community work.
