Writing assistance is offered on both class-wide and individual
bases. Special assistance is provided to students for whom English is a second
Each incoming student participates in the "Lawyering Prologue." Here,
students are encouraged to think about the inherent, inescapable logic of
written language and to strengthen their skills at using that logic consciously
as a tool to achieve individual writing goals.
All students participate by taking a diagnostic test to help them assess
readiness to do professional quality writing. After taking the 45-minute test,
students score themselves and then fill out a chart identifying any trouble
spots in their basic writing skills. They leave the session with a handy study
guide that will help them work on any shortcomings before turning in any law
school assignments that will be graded.
