Both J.D. and LL.M. students may take advantage of study abroad opportunities offered at Albany Law. The study abroad programs aim to create partnerships with international law schools for the exchange of faculty and students that enrich both the academic and cultural communities of each institution.

Study Abroad Summer Highlights

Law Firm Summer Internships in Europe and Latin America

The New York State Bar Association's International Section and Albany Law School are offering summer internships at law firms in European and Latin American cities. The internships last from four to eight weeks. The participating law firms will provide the student intern with mentoring and introductory-level work experience. These experiences will vary; in the past student interns have fulfilled work assignments in various business, commercial and financial matters. It may be possible, depending upon particular circumstances, to get academic credit for the internships. While internships are unpaid, NYSBA will consider requests for financial assistance. Many of the participating law firms will provide housing and some meal support for the duration of the internship. Locations for the Summer 2018 Law Student International Internship Program currently include Vienna, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, and Panama City. Application materials should be provided to Professor Halewood. Contact Professor Halewood for more information.

Summer Abroad in Rome, Italy

Through our partnership with Temple University, students can earn five credits in four and a half weeks at Temple's Rome campus. Coursework includes international fiscal policy, international sports law, and EU law. These courses count toward the international law requirement. Students can return to the U.S. as soon as June 19, 2020, for clerkships, research assistantships, or other jobs. More information.

Innovation and Technology Law Summer Academy in Italy

Join other students and tech entrepreneurs from Europe for this unique international travel and learning opportunity at Università di Padova Law School. Albany Law's Prof. Shahrokh Falati, Prof. Claudia Sandei from Università di Padova Law School in Italy, and other law faculty from leading universities in the U.K. and Macedonia will teach and discuss legal issues affecting technology development and innovation (e.g., how European law v. U.S. law affects commercialization of new technologies).

This subsidized course provides the opportunity to network with law students, lawyers, and entrepreneurs from Europe, and to explore the cities of Padova and nearby Venice. Cost includes on-campus accommodation at one of Europe's oldest universities, founded in 1222. Albany Law students can also attend a a short traineeship in Italy, immediately following the course. Contact Professor Falati for more information, or visit innovationsummeracademy.com.

Fulbright Fellowships

Students are encouraged to apply for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program which provides funding for study/research opportunities overseas during or after law school. See us.fulbrightonline.org for details. Contact Professor Halewood for more information.
