COVID-19: Community Updates and Resources
The patent bar exam is based on one’s knowledge of the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure (MPEP), which is the manual for patent attorneys, patent agents and patent examiners published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The MPEP comprises over 3000 pages, and this course will focus on it and provide other background related to the practice of Patent Law where necessary.
In 2017, 0ver 2300 people took the patent bar exam and the national pass rate was less than 45%. Students are encouraged to study in preparation (ideally with help of a commercial bar assistance provided), before registering to take the patent bar exam. There are no prerequisites for taking this class, however, some background in IP is preferred. Apart from law students, students studying any technical field related to larger fields such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Medicine, Math etc. (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Biochemistry, Computer Science) and working Professionals with a Tech. background who are interested to represent clients by practicing Patent Law as a USPTO-registered Patent Agent are also welcome to register and take part in this class.
