Justices from the State of New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department

Justices from the State of New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department will hear oral arguments at Albany Law School on Thursday, March 28, 2019, starting at 1:30 p.m. in the Dean Alexander Moot Courtroom.

The session is an opportunity to see the appellate process firsthand. Attendees can come and go during the session, but proper court decorum—including no talking and no hats—is required.

Justices hearing arguments will be: Hon. Elizabeth A. Garry ’90, Presiding Justice; Hon. John C. Egan Jr. ’80; Hon. Michael C. Lynch ’79; ; Hon. Christine M. Clark ’96; and Hon. Sharon A.M. Aarons.

The session is free and open to the public. Attorneys may enter the DAMC on the fourth floor; students should enter on the fifth floor.

Albany Law has hosted a session of the Appellate Division, Third Department each year since 1995. When the first session at the law school was held on Oct. 11 of that year, it marked the first time in more than 85 years that the court had sat at a location other than its home courtroom.

That initial session also marked the beginning of a program whereby the Appellate Division, Third Department began holding court sessions throughout the 28 counties that make up its geographic jurisdiction.
