Albany Law’s Online M.S. Program Named 11th Best—and Most Flexible—in U.S.
Albany Law School has one of the nation's top online master's programs in legal studies, according to new research by OnlineMasters.com.
Albany Law's program ranked No. 11 overall—and was named most flexible—in the United States in OnlineMasters.com's Best Online Master's in Legal Studies Programs for 2019. The law school currently offers a fully online Master of Science in Legal Studies (MSLS) with a specialization in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy, the first distance-learning program of its kind in the U.S., and plans to launch in 2019 an online degree program in financial compliance and risk management.
"Our focus is on advancing the career of working professionals, and we are proud to be recognized as one of the top in the nation by Online Masters," said Jason Fiske, Assistant Dean for Program Development and Distance Learning. "One of our primary goals is to build a program for working professionals that fits into their lives, and being recognized as the No. 1 most flexible program is a great recognition of the hard work put in by so many here at the law school."
To determine its rankings, OnlineMasters.com analyzed every online master's in legal studies program in the country and consulted industry experts, hiring managers, current students, and alumni. The list was based on three main indicators: academic quality (40 percent), including academic metrics, programming, and faculty credentials and training; student success (40 percent), including graduate reputation, student engagement, and student services and technology; and affordability (20 percent), including average net cost, percentage of students with loans, and default rate. The methodology incorporated data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and the National Center for Education Statistics.
"The [Bureau of Labor Statistics] estimates steady job growth in all legal fields over the next eight years, so graduates in legal studies will be highly valued," OnlineMasters.com Program Recognition Manager Barbara Montgomery said in a statement.
Albany Law School's online master's program in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy is designed to prepare candidates for the field of today and adapt for the rapid change of tomorrow, enabling students to unlock their potential and graduates to distinguish themselves in the work force. Multiple start dates and a flexible schedule are key features of the program; students are able to earn their degree while maintaining career and family commitments.
