Albany Law Announces Partnership with Global Cyber Alliance
Albany Law School today announced a new partnership supporting the mission of the Global Cyber Alliance (GCA), a not-for-profit organization committed to improving safety and security in a progressively interconnected world.
By drawing on the strengths of cross-sector experts, world leaders, and its multinational partners, the Global Cyber Alliance will collectively identify, confront, and mitigate top cyber risks.
“Albany Law School is proud to partner with the Global Cyber Alliance,” said Antony Haynes, Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Information Systems at Albany Law School. “The Law School will help the GCA think through difficult legal issues, brainstorm solutions, and draft white papers regarding eradication of intractable, systemic cybersecurity risks.”
William Pelgrin, Chair of the Global Cyber Alliance, said that "GCA will work across the globe in collaboration and cooperation with world leaders and global organizations and governments in a common approach to improve cyber security. GCA is focused on the top cyber risks and not on individual cyber threats. It is first and foremost a solutions farm — an action-oriented community initiative to tackle the risks and measure our outcomes. We are so pleased that Albany Law School will be strong partners with GCA. The Law School will bring specialized expertise and critical thinking to our efforts to combat the top cyber risks."
Earlier this month, Albany Law unveiled its new concentration in Law and Cybersecurity in collaboration with the University at Albany’s School of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC). The program will prepare J.D. graduates to provide legal counsel to a broad range of industries and individuals on an array of data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity matters.
The Law School’s cyber law program was developed in response to extensive research that showed a need for the area of study, both regionally and nationally. The effort is being led by Associate Dean Haynes, who was hired last year to implement a series of strategic projects with a focus on programs in technology.
GCA was formed in 2015 by the New York County's District Attorney's Office, the City of London Police, and the Center for Internet Security. Partners include Albany Law School and leaders in government, health care, energy, retail, and several other industries.
