The Government Law Center at Albany Law School has announced 16 new Government Law Center Fellows selected from the incoming class. The latest Fellows were recognized at a virtual ceremony on October 14.

The Government Law Center Fellowship was established in 2015 and is a unique opportunity that includes a curriculum focused on public-service practice and mentoring to prepare students for a career in public service. Fellows can explore public-service career settings, see public-service lawyering in practice, and develop a supportive community of students with public-minded interests. For upper-class students, the Fellowship combines academics with professional practice, through required classes and an experiential-learning placement at either the Government Law Center, an advocacy organization, a law firm in a role that involves focus on government activities, or a government agency.

"We are living in unique and unprecedented times where people are turning to government for help. The Fellowship is the first step along the path of creating the public servants that will provide that help," said Ava Ayers, Director of the Government Law Center. "These students are the next generation of great public servants and I expect they will serve their communities with care and compassion."

The new Fellows are Estefania Acosta, Emily Ahlqvist, Greg Brown, Shivani Damera, Andrew Doody, Elizabeth Getz, Shannon Hardy, Elizabeth Helmer, Lisa-Michelle Houck, Becky Johnson, Aastha Kataky, Allison Magnarelli, Meaghan McKay, Zoe Reszytniak, Michelle Viera, and Taylor Yensan.

The Government Law Center at Albany Law School helps state and local governments better serve their communities while training the next generation of leaders in public service. The GLC comprises a diverse and inclusive group of practitioners, students, and scholars working together to produce high-quality, reliable, nonpartisan legal research and analysis.
