COVID-19: Community Updates and Resources
On May 12, 2020, Albany Law School's faculty unanimously approved a resolution commending President and Dean Alicia Ouellette and the law school's administration and staff for their actions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The last faculty meeting of the academic year in May serves as a time for reflection. Looking back on the extraordinary year that was 2020, the faculty wished to commend the administration and staff for their grace, wisdom, and strength in the face of a global pandemic," said Professor Melissa Breger, Chair of the Faculty Affairs Committee. "They pivoted rapidly and decisively to protect our health as well as the quality of education—this is our way of thanking them."
"The hard work, dedication, and leadership the entire Albany Law community has shown is not lost on the Board," said James E. Hacker '84, Chair of the Board of Trustees. "We continue to be amazed, proud, and humbled by their spirit."
The resolution reads as follows:
WHEREAS, the COVID-19 crisis presented unexpected challenges for the law school community, the Capital District and the global community; and
WHEREAS, Albany Law School leadership under the direction of Dean Alicia Ouellette quickly and decisively implemented a series of policies as information became available; and
WHEREAS, the policies implemented saved lives and stopped the spread immediately at Albany Law School; and
WHEREAS, the policies implemented also resulted in a successful transition to distance learning, distance community-building and distance communication across the entire Albany Law community, including alumni, guest speakers and virtual intellectual enrichment events for faculty and students;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the faculty at Albany Law School vote to commend the Dean, Administration and Staff for their creative innovation, quick response and compassionate leadership in a time of deep crisis for our community, our country and our world.
