The Global Institute for Health and Human Rights cordially invites you to attend "The Women of the Middle East" conference, from Monday, Oct. 21, to Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, in Albany, N.Y. It is a week-long conference and cultural program at the University at Albany and Albany Law School.
Each day is centered on a theme, such as women in the arts and performing arts, social activism, law, and higher education. There are panel discussions, lectures, performances, and film screenings each day. Films include The Pear Tree, No One Knows About Persian Cats, and Needle. Lectures by Goli Taraghi, Ava Homa, Kaziwa Salih, Gissou Nia, and Mehrangiz Kar are scheduled. Performances include a piano concert by Tara Kamangar, a Sufi dance performance by Banafsheh Sayyad, and a spoken word performance by Amal Kassir.
Organizers are Albany Law School, Institute of International Education - Scholar Rescue Fund, New York State Writer's Institute, Turkish Cultural Center, and the University at Albany's Alumni Association, Center for Women in Government and Civil Society, Department of Music, Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, the Office of International Education, University Auxiliary Services, and the University at Albany Foundation.
