Associate Dean and Raymond and Ella Smith Distinguished Professor of Law Patricia Salkin will participate in the panel "Green Building Codes and Ordinances: Challenges and Opportunities for Property Owners and Local Governments" for the ABA Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law and the ABA Section of State and Local Government Law on Sept. 15.

Justice David Josiah Brewer Distinguished Professor of Law Ira Mark Bloom will participate in the NYSBA webcast "New York's Power of Attorney Law after the August 2010 Technical Corrections Bill" on Sept. 8.

August 2010

Professor Patrick Connors and Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Law David Siegel presented a New York Civil Practice Update at Albany Law School's CLE in Saratoga Seminar Series on Aug. 13. 

Professor Melissa Breger presented a CLE on "Current Developments in Family Law" to judges and practitioners as part of Albany Law School's CLE in Saratoga Seminar Series on Aug. 6. 

Professor Patrick Connors presented a New York Civil Practice Update and Ethics Update to the New York State Bar Association's Trial Lawyers Section at their Annual Summer Meeting in Manchester, Vt., on Aug. 2.

July 2010

Professor Donna Young and Professor Peter Halewood presented papers at the LatCrit International & Comparative Law Colloquium, Cite Internationale Universitaire de Paris, in Paris, France, on July 27. Professor Young spoke about comparative and international theories of equality, and Professor Halewood spoke about the use of categories of sameness and difference in international human rights law.

Professor Joan Stearns Johnsen presented a program on mediation advocacy and negotiation at the New York City Bar on July 20.

June 2010

Professor Patrick Connors presented an ethics program to the Federal Court Bar Association of the Northern District of New York entitled "The New Rules One Year Later" in Auburn, N.Y., on June 24. He also moderated a panel of three federal district court judges on "Judicial Perspectives on Ethical Issues."  

Professor Benjie Louis participated on the panel "To Stay or to Go: Why Public Interest Attorneys of Color Stay or Leave Legal Services/Legal Aid" at the New York State Bar Association's 2010 Legal Assistance Partnership Conference on June 16.

Professor Patrick Connors and Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Law David Siegel presented a New York Civil Practice Update to the Onondaga County Bar Association on June 11.

May 2010

James Campbell Matthews Distinguished Professor of Jurisprudence Anthony Paul Farley participated in the rountable discussion "Making Sense of the Financial Crisis Part II: Racial, Heteropatriarchal, and Class Dynamics - Insights for an Integrated Theory?" at the University at Buffalo Law School's Baldy Center for Law & Social Policy on May 17. 

Professor Peter Halewood and Professor Donna Young presented papers at the LatCrit South-North Exchange (SNX) conference on "The Global Politics of Food" in Mexico City, held from May 6 to 8. The conference brought together scholars from throughout Latin America, the United States and Canada to explore problems ranging from food insecurity and hunger to biofuels and biodiversity. The papers from the conference are to be published in a symposium issue of the University of Miami Interamerican Law Review.

Professor Melissa Breger presented the paper "Against the Dilution of a Child's Voice in Court" at The Law & Society Annual Conference in Chicago. The paper will be published in the Indiana International and Comparative Law Review.

Professor Benjie Louis and Professor Deborah Kearns presented "Using Technology and Backward Design to Help Students Acquire the Attributes of Effective, Responsible Lawyers" at the AALS Conference on Clinical Legal Education in Baltimore, Md., on May 8.

President William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy Paul Finkelman participated in the U.S. Capitol Historical Society's seventh annual conference on "The National Capital in a Nation Divided: Congress and the District of Columbia Confront Sectionalism and Slavery" in Washington, D.C., on May 7.

Professor Patrick Connors and Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Law David Siegel presented a New York Civil Practice Update to the Rockland County Bar Association on May 7.

Associate Dean and Raymond and Ella Smith Distinguished Professor of Law Patricia Salkin was ranked 78 out of more than 1,500 law authors on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN), a searchable electronic library of more than 133,800 authors and more than 232,700 papers.

April 2010

Professor Patrick Connors presented a New York Civil Practice Update to the Federation of Bar Associations of the Fourth Judicial District at its annual meeting in Montreal, Canada, on April 24.

Associate Dean and Raymond and Ella Smith Distinguished Professor of Law Patricia Salkin was elected to The American Law Institute, an organization of lawyers, judges and law professors that produces scholarly work to improve law practice and teaching.

Professor Donna Young delivered the presentation "The Work-Family Conflict: Regulating Work and Family Life" on the panel "Legal Considerations for the 21st Century Practitioner" at the New York State Bar Association program "Women on the Move CLE 2010."

James Campbell Matthews Distinguished Professor of Jurisprudence Anthony Paul Farley delivered the keynote address "Abolition: A Guide for an Absolute End to Prison" during a day-long forum on "Cultures of Hate: Regulating, Marketing, Performing" at the University of Connecticut on April 9.

Professor Elizabeth Renuart delivered the presentation "Critique Of The Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act Cost Disclosure Regime" during a mortgage crisis symposium at Valparaiso University School of Law on March 26.

President William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy Paul Finkelman was appointed to the editorial board of Reviews in American History, published by The Johns Hopkins University Press.

Professor Evelyn Tenenbaum was appointed an adjunct professor of medical education by the Board of Trustees of Albany Medical College.

Professor Maria Grahn-Farley discussed "Trafficking Children: Law, Race, & Philosophy" at the University of Minnesota Law School for the 2010 International Congress on Human Trafficking on March 18. She spoke about "The United States and International Child Rights" while participating in a panel on "Women's Rights, Children's Rights, and U.S.-Muslim Relations" at the University of Iowa College of Law on March 5.

President William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy Paul Finkelman delivered the presentation "Guilty Until Pardoned: The Griffin Brothers and South Carolina's First Posthumous Capital Murder Pardon" at Davidson College in North Carolina on Feb. 16.

Professor Evelyn Tenenbaum was selected to serve on the Legal Writing Institute's Scholarship Grant Committee.

Professor Annette Kahler delivered the presentation "Women in Intellectual Property and the Innovation Ecosystem" at a meeting of the Eastern New York Intellectual Property Law Association in Albany on Feb. 9.

James Campbell Matthews Distinguished Professor of Jurisprudence Anthony Paul Farley delivered the presentation "Prison Abolition: A Critique of the Philosophy of Punishment" at the University at Albany on Feb. 5.

President William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy Paul Finkelman delivered the presentation "Slavery and the Constitution: The Dred Scott Decision" on Feb. 1 and the presentation "Religion & the Law: The Ten Commandments and Separation of Church & State" on Feb. 2 at The Thomas S. Foley Institute for Public Policy and Public Service at Washington State University. He also delivered a presentation on President Lincoln titled "The Great Emancipator as Lawyer: How a Railroad Lawyer put Four Million People on the Freedom Train" at Washington State University on Feb. 2.

Professor Patrick Connors and Hon. Joseph P. Sullivan presented the Report and recommendations of the New York State Bar Association's Special Committee to Review the Code of Judicial Conduct to the Association's Executive Committee and House of Delegates at the Annual Meeting in New York City on Jan. 28 and 29. 

President William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy Paul Finkelman delivered the presentation "Affirmative Action for the Master Class: The Legacy of Our Pro-Slavery Constitution" as part of the Martin Luther King Lecture Series at Siena College on Jan. 27.

James Campbell Matthews Distinguished Professor of Jurisprudence Anthony Paul Farley participated in a panel discussion on "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Vision of the Beloved Community" during the Martin Luther King Celebration 2010 at Salt Lake Community College in Utah on Jan. 19.

Professor Mary Lynch was elected an executive officer on the board of directors for the Empire Justice Center, a statewide public interest law firm that works to achieve social and economic justice for people across New York state.

Associate Dean and Raymond and Ella Smith Distinguished Professor of Law Patricia Salkin was elected chair of the State and Local Government Law Section of the Association of American Law Schools, a non-profit association of 171 law schools.
