Legal Future of Nanotechnology Subject of Albany Law Journal Conference

The Albany Law Journal of Science and Technology of Albany Law School will hold a one-day conference about nanotechnology and the legal and business issues presented by this new technology on Thursday, March 1 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The symposium is called "The Legal Future of Nanotechnology: Small Science Calls for Big Changes."

The symposium will feature three panels of speakers addressing what is on the horizon in nanotechnology, patent difficulties and regulatory affairs.

Some of the speakers include:

  • Dr. Raj Bawa, founder, Bawa Biotechnology Consulting LLC, adjunct assistant professor at RPI
  • Paul DiConza, patent counsel, General Electric Global Research
  • Michael Fancher, director for economic outreach and associate professor of nanoeconomics, The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering of the University at Albany
  • Bruce Kisliuk, group director, Technology Center 1600, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Jeffrey Matsuura, Alliance Law Group
  • Terry Medley, global director of corporate regulatory affairs, DuPont
  • Evan Michelson, Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars
  • Dr. James Ryan, associate vice president of technology and professor of nanoscience, The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering of the University at Albany
  • Ted Sabety, founding partner, Sabety & Associates

There will also be a keynote address about the environmental concerns facing nanotechnology given by Martin Spitzer, former professional staff for the United States House Committee on Science and Technology.
