Environmental Justice

Working with the National Academy for Public Administration and with the support of the Ford Foundation, the GLC developed a national curriculum for members of planning and zoning boards and local elected officials on the intersection of environmental justice and local land use planning and zoning. Trainings were held in 2006 and 2007 in Chicago, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Albany. More than a dozen national organizations joined the Center in supporting this educational program, which emanated from a national study conducted by Center staff and students. The Center's continuing work in this area assists communities in ensuring social equity in land use and community development decisions.
