Citizen Oversight of Law Enforcement

Through the Government Law Center, Albany Law School is the only academic institution in the country to provide staff support services to an independent police oversight board. Established by local law in 2000, the Albany Citizens' Police Review Board reviews and monitors the internal affairs investigations into allegations of inappropriate conduct by members of the police department. In addition to providing the only staff support in the daily operations of the Board, the Center develops training for Board members, monitors and mediators, and assists the Board in conducting national research on critical community policing issues to better inform the Board's discussion of policy recommendations for the Albany Police Department.
