Modernizing Land Use and Environmental Laws

The Government Law Center worked with the National Governor's Association (NGA) on the development of a report for state governors on the use of conservation easements as a way to keep private lands working while promoting long-term open space goals. The paper was presented at an NGA meeting and posted to its Web site. In addition, the Center's work including studies and reports prepared for legislative committees and commissions, the American Planning Association and the Lincoln Institute for Land Policy have been instrumental in affecting statutory changes across the United States to modernize planning and zoning enabling acts and to help to promote laws and policies to better achieve sustainable development.
