    Patrick M. Connors is a Professor of Law at Albany Law School where he teaches New York Practice and Legal Ethics. He was an Adjunct Professor of Law at Syracuse University College of Law where he taught Professional Responsibility from 1991 to 1999.

    He received his B.A. degree from Georgetown University and his J.D. degree from St. John’s Law School, where he was an editor of the Law Review and research assistant to Professor David D. Siegel.

    Upon graduation from St. John’s in 1988, Professor Connors served as a personal law clerk to Judge Richard D. Simons of the New York Court of Appeals until 1991. From 1991 until May of 2000 he was an associate and then member of the litigation department at Hancock & Estabrook, LLP, in Syracuse, New York.

    Commencing with the January 2013 supplement, Professor Connors became the author for Siegel, New York Practice (5th ed.). In addition, he is the author of the McKinney’s Practice Commentaries for CPLR Article 22, Stay, Motions, Orders and Mandates, Article 23, Subpoenas, Oaths and Affirmations, Article 30, Remedies and Pleading, and Article 31, Disclosure. He also authors the Practice Commentaries for the New York Rules of Professional Conduct (available on Westlaw; in progress) and several articles in the Surrogate’s Court Procedure Act. He is also the author of the New York Practice column and the annual Court of Appeals Roundup on New York Civil Practice, which are published in the New York Law Journal. From 1992 through 2003, he was a Reporter for the Committee on New York Pattern Jury Instructions (“PJI”), the panel of New York State Supreme Court Justices that drafts and oversees the frequent revisions of the standard jury charges in civil cases. His publications have been cited in over 130 reported cases.

    He is a member of the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Professional Ethics. He served on the New York State Attorney Grievance Committee for the Fifth Judicial District from 1997 until 2000. He was the Reporter for the New York State Bar Association's Special Committee on the Code of Judicial Conduct, which published a report recommending substantial amendments to New York’s Code of Judicial Conduct. He was also the Reporter for the New York State Bar Association's Task Force on Non-lawyer Ownership of Law Firms. He is a member of the Office of Court Administration’s Advisory Committee on Civil Practice and served as a member of the New York State Bar Association’s CPLR Committee from 2003 through 2007.

    Professor Connors is a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education seminars on recent developments in New York Practice, professional ethics and legal malpractice. He has also served as an expert witness and consultant on issues pertaining to attorney ethics, legal malpractice, and civil procedure.

    In the Fall of 2015, Professor Connors will be a Visiting Scholar in Residence at Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center.

  • Professor Patrick Connors presented a New York Practice Update to the Onondaga County Bar Association in Syracuse, N.Y., on June 21, 2013.
  • Professor Patrick Connors has taken over the authorship of Professor David Siegel's treatise, New York Practice (5th. ed 2011 West). It had been authored by Professor Siegel since the first edition in 1978. The July 2013 Pocket Part, which includes major developments in New York civil procedure through the winter of 2013, is expected to be published shortly.

  • Professor Patrick Connors presented a New York Civil Practice Update to the Capital District Trial Lawyers Association on May 9, 2013, in Albany.

    Professor Connors also moderated a program entitled “Third-Party Litigation Funding: Boon or Bane?” at the Spring Meeting of the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section of the New York State Bar Association on May 4, 2013, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
  • Professor Patrick Connors and Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Law David Siegel presented a New York Civil Practice Update to the Justices and law clerks of the Appellate Division, Third Department, and the law clerks of the New York Court of Appeals, on May 3, 2013. 
  • Professor Patrick Connors presented a New York Civil Practice Update to the Federation of Bar Associations of the Fourth Judicial District at its annual meeting in Montreal, Canada, on April 27, 2013. The meeting was attended by Appellate and Trial Court Justices and lawyers within the 11 counties that comprise New York’s Fourth Judicial District.

    Professor Connors also appeared on the ethics portion of a New York State Bar Association webcast program entitled “Reasonable, Ethical and Defensible E-Discovery – A Practical Approach” conducted at the offices of Latham and Watkins in New York City on April 11, 2013.
  • Professor Patrick Connors' committee, the New York State Racing Fan Advisory Council, submitted its 2012 Report and Recommendations in an effort to help ensure the state's ongoing prominence in the racing industry.
  • Professor Patrick Connors presented a program on recent developments in New York ethics to the Chaminade High School Alumni Lawyers Association in Mineola, N.Y., on Dec. 13.

  • Professor Patrick Connors presented a New York Civil Practice Update to the New York City Managing Attorneys and Clerks at the law offices of Sidley Austin LLP in New York City on Oct. 19. ​

    On Oct. 5, hr presented a New York Civil Practice Update to the Judges of the New York Court of Claims at the Annual Court of Claims Judges’ Association Meeting in Cooperstown, N.Y.​

    On Oct. 3, Professor Connors presented a New York Civil Practice Update to the Suffolk Academy of Law in Hauppauge, N.Y.

  • Professor Patrick Connors, who chairs New York State’s Racing Fan Advisory Council, appeared on Capital OTB Network’s Track Facts program on Aug. 26 to discuss the Council’s work. 

    On August 30, he chaired a Q&A session that the Council hosted for racing fans at Saratoga Race Course.​

    He also presented a New York Civil Practice Update at Albany Law School’s CLE in Saratoga Program in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Aug. 10.​
